I am a recent graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design, a Minor in Marketing, and a Certificate in Sustainability.
My educational experience has exposed me to numerous opportunities including a Certificate in Sustainability to complement my interior design degree. I have developed skills in AutoCAD, Revit, Google Sketch Up, Adobe Photoshop, hand rendering, space planning, and Microsoft Office Suite.
I have been blessed with many career opportunities like being the Visual Merchandising Manager at a woman’s boutique store called, Makenna Jane’s Boutique, in Grundy Center, IA. Something that sets me apart is I have been to market several times as a buyer for the store; also I do all of the floor sets each week. This has been a challenging but fun thing for me to be in charge of, I love analyzing how a customer shops and how to arrange the store for people to actually buy more without having to say a word to them. Managing a store has taught me how to interact with people on many different levels. I have had the responsibility to interview new employees and even make new hires. Another neat opportunity I had was working as an Interior Design Assistant at Storey Kenworthy in Waterloo, IA. It has provided me with valuable practical design experience in space planning, developing floor plans, ceiling plans, paint plans, material boards, all of the color schemes, going to meetings with clients, answering the phone, ordering samples, meeting with reps, organizing and keeping the library kept up, etc. These opportunities have also exposed me to extensive manufacturer and product knowledge.
Studying abroad in Italy post graduation really exposed me to unique design and overall people skills. After I got back I worked in Orange City at Holland House Interiors and that is where I really realized I needed to start my own business, so here I am! Hope to hear from you soon!
