Our Store Manager Kenadey and her husband began remodeling their home in 2023 through multiple phases. In Phase Two, they added 2,500 square feet and remodeled the existing rooms of the home for their growing family.Â
We’ve shared the main level of the addition, which included the primary suite, girls bedroom, morning room, guest bath, living room, and laundry room. Read all the details in this blog post.
Throughout this blog post, we’re diving into her design of the upper level, which includes two kids bedrooms, a bathroom, and a landing that also functions as a playroom.

The Design
Kenadey wanted to create spaces for her children to exist proudly. Instead of choosing grey or beige paint colors, she leaned into bold colors that reflect their individual personalities to make them feel even more at home in their unique spaces.Â
One element Kenadey especially loves in the kids rooms is the different crown molding and trim styles that match each room’s aesthetic.

The Landing and Playroom
Kenadey also chose to implement bold color and patterned countertop in the landing and hallway of the upper level. The rich color-drenched Farrow and Ball paint creates a dramatic moment in a space that can oftentimes be overlooked.
This multi-functional space doubles as a playroom for the kids to enjoy, but it still boasts sophisticated details like the Rowe Furniture sofa and rug from Loloi Rugs. The built-in storage by Showplace Cabinetry allows Kenadey and her family to have toys and games accessible while also hiding them away when not in use. She selected hardware from Top Knobs to complete the cabinetry.
Kenadey continued the color-drenched design through the hallway of the upper level that leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The Blue Room
In the first of the kids bedrooms, Sherwin Williams Sleepy Hollow paint creates a calm feel to the room. The light fixture is a standout element that gives a nod to the original character of the home, while still feeling whimsical. Kenadey selected a patterned Rifle Paper rug to bring interest and color to the room.
The beautiful wood bed, part of the Chris Loves Julia line from Pottery Barn, is a timeless piece that will grow with the room. Kenadey completed the room with bedding and curtains from Anthropologie Home.
The builtins function as additional storage, but they feel really cohesive to the rest of the room.
The Striped Room
To continue the use of bold colors and patterns, the second kids room features a vertical striped wall design with Sherwin Williams Pewter Green as the main wall color.
Kenadey selected a beautiful Lulu & Georgia bed, with bedding from Target. The overhead light from Pottery Barn adds a statement to the space, while the Loloi rug anchors the bedroom with a neutral pattern.

The Bathroom
In the upper level bathroom, Kenadey opted for dark cabinetry, paired with walls painted Sherwin Williams Grays Harbor to bring a moody feel to the space. The gorgeous custom cabinetry also features reeded glass fronts to provide privacy and a unique design feature. Kenadey finished the cabinetry with hardware from Top Knobs.
To further lean into the moody feel of the bathroom, Kenadey selected dark Zia tile for the shower walls and ceiling, paired with tile from Tile Bar for the floor and trim. She sourced the shower head and faucets from Vintage Bath and Tub.
The arched window brings in beautiful natural light, while the faucet gives a vintage flair to the space.
While the renovation of The Cattle Cottage is complete, the memories Kenadey and her family create in this home are only just beginning. We are in love with the details she chose and the intentionality that went into every single square footage.
