The Blooming Barndominium home was completed in 2024, and it remains a favorite project for our team. Located right in Grundy Center, this farmhouse sits on a beautiful property that also houses a flower farm called Heirloom Blooms Farm. This fall season, we are dreaming about heading over to this property to gather cut flowers for our own homes.

We designed the entire new construction barndominium with rustic charm complemented by the beautiful hues of fresh flowers right out their window.
The Design
Many of our clients come to us with big dreams for their home, and we love helping them achieve a beautiful, thoughtful design that stays within their budget. Our team came in to meet all of those needs while staying true to the design style.
This struggle is usually where our clients find themselves without a designer to help bring their vision and logistics together, but we love helping them feel confident in how their home will look and feel in their lives. If you’re curious about working with 319 Decor + Design on a new home construction or a remodel, we’d love to connect with you.

Oftentimes, the designs will shift slightly during the construction process as our client has clear renderings, elevations, and floor plans to make decisions confidently. As you can see, the original cabinetry included more black cabinetry, but we refined the plans to lean more into the wood with black accents. It’s all part of the process and why it’s so helpful to have visual representations of your future home.

Every corner of this barndominium home was designed to bring warmth and a touch of nature indoors. We loved getting to incorporate the entire property of flower fields as inspiration for the design.

The Construction
As this home was being built in Grundy Center, we were able to visit the site often, including when each selection was installed and to answer any questions the builder and client had along the way.
If you’re curious about working with 319 Decor & Design on a home in central Iowa or elsewhere in the country, we invite you to explore our design process and reach out with any questions you may have.
The Home
We loved getting to reveal this home to our client, and we are thrilled to share all the details with you as well. Our vision was to create a home that felt like a cozy cabin with a farmhouse flair to fit our client’s design style.
The cement flooring gives a nod to nature, while the rich rugs throughout the home add beautiful warmth.

The Kitchen
In the kitchen, we partnered with Showplace Cabinetry for gorgeous rustic hickory cabinets that really steal the show. Paired with a black hood and barstools, the space feels bold while still really inviting.
One of the elements I am most proud of in this home is the kitchen layout because it is so unique. We paired a mix of cabinetry together for a lot of storage, which we love providing for our clients. This combination also makes the space feel really interesting from so many angles.
The farmhouse details throughout the kitchen nod to the overall design style while meeting practical needs our client has, such as space for pans above the range.
Due to spacing with the window, we weren’t able to install a true farmhouse sink, so instead we offset the faucet to the side of the sink. This unexpected design decision turned out to be one of my favorite features of the project because it’s so unique.

Pantry
Right off the kitchen is our client’s pantry with additional counter space for food prep and cabinets for storage. We love the window that our clients can look out to see the nearby flower fields while preparing a meal.

The Living Room
In the spacious living room, we selected a stone fireplace while incorporating a wood mantel to tie in the farmhouse design style. The large windows bring in beautiful natural light to make the room feel really open. We also love the wood beam that adds interest, while providing an organic separation between the kitchen and living room in this open-concept main level.
Farmhouse Decor
Throughout the home, but specifically in the living room, we brought in beautiful farmhouse style decor. These thoughtful details are really what make a house feel like a home. To see more of our decor, browse and shop our favorite pieces online.
Floral Details
With this home being located on the same property as the homeowner’s flower field, we couldn’t help but bring a few of the flowers into the home. It’s obvious how much care our client puts into their work, and we loved getting to style a few bouquets for their home during our photoshoot.
Exterior
Outside of the home is our client’s gorgeous flower field called Heirloom Blooms Farm that you can visit this fall to cut flowers of your own. We promise it’s worth the trip to see the fields and bring some of the beauty into your home.

We are so proud of the Blooming Barndominium home and the intentional design that went into every single corner.
