Revealing the Palermo on the Pond Home

We are thrilled to introduce our newest full construction project – Palermo on the Pond. This home in Grundy Center faces out to a beautiful pond which creates the most idyllic backdrop, inspiring the name of the project.

Our Owner and Interior Designer Katie took lead on this project, crafting a home for clients who feel like family to her. Her vision was to create a great flow for this young family. They are in a busy season of running businesses, farming, working from home, and raising three busy kiddos, so there are a lot of moving parts in their lives. She wanted their home to be a place that can support their lifestyle and also provide space for their moments together.

Katie also wanted to create a home the family could grow old in, so while the designs are functional for a young family, it doesn’t feel too “kid-focused.”

The Design

While wood tones help ground the home, our clients wanted to incorporate color and pattern into their home to showcase their design style. Katie loves the mix of blue tones seen throughout the home.

The 3D renderings helped shape the vision for the home, giving our clients the visual to see what each space would look like prior to construction beginning.

The Entryway

Upon entering the home, a gorgeous entryway greets guests. The flooring is an engineered hardwood, which is an investment but makes the entire home feel really luxurious.

We loved how our clients styled this space to feel warm and lived in, even though it is a new construction home.

The Mudroom

For this busy young family, a highly functional mudroom was crucial to staying organized and keeping shoes and outerwear in one central location. We chose a beautiful green color for the custom cabinetry mixed with wood details that make this space feel really welcoming.

Our client built this piece himself with wood reclaimed out of the corn crib they knocked down to build the home.

The Kitchen

At the heart of the home, the kitchen is a true focal point filled with so many stunning details. A large island provides lots of counterspace, additional seating, and storage on both sides.

A hidden pantry provides a seamless feel within the kitchen but valuable storage nearby.

The large double fridge feels so luxurious, especially paired with the floating shelves. We loved using our client’s decor and mixed in pieces from 319 Decor & Design to style the shelves. This will be the perfect spot to showcase seasonal decor each year.

We love the drywall hood set in the midst of the custom cabinetry from Showplace Cabinetry. Naturally large doors on cabinetry can be troublesome, this house was no different. We went through three rounds of warranty doors to get them perfect for our customers. We always go the extra mile to ensure quality and that our customers are happy.

The Hidden Pantry

Hidden behind the cabinetry is a large pantry with floating shelves, as well as closed cabinetry for custom storage. A window brings in natural light to the space.

The Dining Room

The dining room off the kitchen features a large window overlooking the pond in the backyard. Even though the main level has an open concept floorplan, each space feels distinct and purposeful.

The Living Room

In the living room, a large stone fireplace anchors the space. To incorporate copper tones into the home, we chose a beautiful stone with a wood mantle.

All of the beams are wood from the corn crib our clients tore down to build this home, which creates so much warmth in the space along with adding to the story.

The Master Bath

An archway to the master suite sets the tone for the space. A double sink vanity provides ample counter space, and the window in the middle brings in beautiful natural light.

The tile in the large shower makes the space feel like a spa, complete with a large niche for storage. We love the mix of materials in this space that remain neutral but add playful patterns.

The Powder Bath

The powder bathroom features a stunning botanical patterned wallpaper from York Wallcoverings. It truly is a fan favorite!

The Basement

To transition from the main level to the basement, we chose a beautiful stair runner that feels welcoming and elevated. While we originally selected a wool runner, we opted instead for another option that our clients enjoyed more. The process of designing is not a linear one, but we love getting to walk alongside our clients to create their dream space, ensuring they love every detail and material.

The basement features a large stone fireplace with custom cabinetry on either side, making the room feel really cozy. It is the perfect spot to gather as a family or to host larger groups.

The Laundry Room

To support the family’s lifestyle, a hard-working laundry room was critical. This space includes lots of storage, along with a shelf for displaying seasonal decor.

The Decor

Our team loved styling all of the spaces of this home with decor from 319 Decor and Design. It really is the finishing touches that make a house feel like home for our clients.

We are thrilled with the Palermo on the Pond home and are honored to have played a role in shaping this special place for our clients for years to come. The overall feeling of this home will stay with us for a long time.
