The Back Country Abode remodel was completed in 2023, and it has stood the test of time as a favorite amongst our team. Located in Hubbard, Iowa, we were able to preserve pieces of the original home while bringing new life to the space that our clients can enjoy for years to come.
One element that has been really special to us is getting to travel back to this home each season to style it with decor from 319 Decor + Design. If you’re interested in our decor or styling services, we’d love to connect with you to share more.

Before
Prior to the renovation, the home had solid bones, but it was lacking the finished design look our clients were desiring. The casework throughout the home was in incredible condition, so we were able to keep the original wood while bringing a fresh new aesthetic to the space.
The Design
When designing this home, we wanted to incorporate natural elements that tied in the home’s exterior and landscaping around the property. While the color tones lean neutral, we selected stone and wood elements to warm up the space. Because our client wanted to bring in new decor for each season, the earthy hues serve as a perfect background for any piece.
The Home
We are so excited to dive into the details of the completed Back Country Adobe. This project went smoothly, with a fresh feel that our client loves.
As with all projects, there are challenges that arise during the building or remodeling of a home. One obstacle we faced during this project was waiting on items that were backordered and being patient in the meantime. Even though it can seem tempting to find another selection, you’ll see in the photos that the process of waiting for the right pieces is always worth it!

The Kitchen
In the kitchen, we were able to keep the gorgeous wood perimeter cabinetry that adds a lot of warmth to the space. We also reconfigured the current island for crucial prep space and painted it to add dimension. Above the island, we selected gorgeous pendant lights that emphasize the ceiling height and create a nice focal point in the room.
To add contrast, the island not only has white cabinetry, but we also chose lighter countertops for the island, while selecting darker countertops for the perimeter cabinets. The black hardware throughout the kitchen ties the whole space together really nicely.
This kitchen is a perfect example of how a home remodel doesn’t always mean gutting the entire home, especially if the existing home is in good condition. We love getting to work with our clients to determine which elements they still love, while bringing in new features that make the home feel more like them.
The Living Room
Stepping into the living room, the tall ceilings make the space feel grand and open, especially with the large windows that allow ample natural light to come through. To take advantage of the height, we opted for a beautiful farmhouse-style light fixture that immediately draws the eye upward when in this room.
As mentioned, we kept the original casework throughout the home, which feels fresh against the new paint and design elements.
One of the biggest design elements we added to the living room was the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, complete with a wood mantel. Surrounding the fireplace, we designed both open shelving that matches the mantel and closed cabinetry from Showplace Cabinetry. This way, our client has space to display decor each season but also storage to keep other items out of sight but still within reach for easy access.
The Dining Room
Separating the kitchen from the living room is the dining room, perfect for hosting guests and showing off seasonal decor. Even in an open concept home like the Back Country Abode, each room can still feel distinct through intentional floor planning and the right furniture.

Throughout the Home
Aside from the main living space, we remodeled the rest of the entire home as well. As you can see, the original casework became a focal point in other spaces, especially with fresh paint, furniture, and decor.
The Back Country Abode project will remain a special one for the 319 team, especially because we get to visit each season to see the home again and style it.
